7 Signs You Need to Remodel Your Home
Whether you are looking to remodel your entire Queenslander home or just need a kitchen renovation, when is the right time to pick up the phone and call your Brisbane builder?
There are a number of factors to consider with timing and many of them are connected to your personal situation. The following are seven questions you should ask yourself before deciding on the right time to begin your project:
-
Are there safety concerns with the existing condition?
If an existing kitchen or bathroom is falling apart it probably can’t wait. It may be a safety hazard in which case you’ll need to contact a builder immediately. That’s not to say you should rush the decision on which to choose – you’ll need to screen all Brisbane builders carefully to ensure you find a qualified, licensed, experienced and reliable team for the project.
-
Is it convenient for everyone in the family?
If there is a big birthday party coming up where you’re catering for fifteen children and have promised them a barbecue, now might not be the right time for a kitchen renovation or an extension! The upheaval will mean that parts of the house will be out of bounds for a while, so your family circumstances will help dictate timing.
-
Do you have the budget?
Whether you have the finances available is important, of course. Get some indicative quotes for the work you need doing and then see what your personal accounts allow. It might mean you have to wait or scale down the work you were planning to so.
-
Part by part or the whole project?
If you’re looking to renovate more than one room or remodel the whole house, should you wait and do all at once or stage by stage? This will depend on a combination of factors but many times it’s better to get the project started while you can and then add to it over time.
-
Are you planning on selling?
If you’re doing up your house to sell, then there may be some urgency to get the project moving; you may have a deadline by which you want your house on the market, or have a prospective buyer already, so this will affect whether you go ahead with your renovation now or later.
-
Is your preferred builder available?
If you already have a trusted Brisbane builder in mind, then you will need to check availability for the renovation project; if you are hunting around for a builder always check upfront what the current workload is and the timescale for completing your project. Rushed jobs will create more problems in the long run and if they sub-contract it out then the quality may suffer; you don’t want the project completion date to blow out and create extra inconvenience for you and your family.
-
Is it the right season?
Stormy season in Brisbane is not the best time to be renovating a kitchen; December to February might be when you have the most time off work, but rainfall is higher in these months and, besides, most Brisbane builders are probably enjoying holiday season over the New Year.
